my wife and I were the only people in the place and the waiter got our order wrong. Instead of chicken swarma they brought us this red onion, pork trimming, vinegar, spice thing.?? we also ordered the "Spinach Pie" which tasted more like tea/ grape leaves than actuall spinach, garlic and cheese, not to mention that it was not seasoned- a typically denverish thing...
the traditional gyro was good though. good luck

Ya Hala at Your Boyz, Yo.

Separated from the Middle East Strip Mall about 3 blocks away. Ya Hala is middle ground choice for the tasty Mediterranean treats.
I've stop by this restaurant numerous times on the way home from work to get take out falafel gyros and if you're looking for something fast that's a bit above Renzio's quality (and more Arabian then Greek), I recommend this place with an 8! Now, that's for takeout. Everything I've tried here is easily on par with Jerusalem's (the ME restaurant that seems to have a strangle hold on everyone's imagination of what really good ME food around Denver should taste like).
If you want to try dining in... here's a warning.
The wait staff is slow and unpredictable... I suspect it's family owned and the waitresses are probably nieces or daughters of said owners... but whatever they are, they are not professional wait staff. So, expect to ask for bread after your meal is served and ask for your check at least 10 minutes before you want to leave.
Typical Mom and Pop "fancy" Middle Eastern restaurant decor with a couple nice framed posters of the sea and various highlight landmarks from the region mark the walls. The lighting is dark which gives the place a nice cozy warm feeling. Although they only have about 8 parking spaces, I've never had a problem finding a spot at this place and I've never seen the restaurant full. I think it's because this place looks good on the inside but because of it's location on a busy, dirty intersection, it's not that appealing on the outside.
The after work gyros are 4.50 a pop, and a sit down meal will be around 6-8 bucks. If you have the patience and are good humored about poor service, give Ya Hala a try but I wouldn't really recommend. If you are driving down Colorado and want some tasty Mid East treats on the go, I recommend this place...well at least all their vegetarian meals :)
