Presidential Barbecue
I was reading up on our recent presidents and one thing struck me: many of them love barbecue. That’s not surprising, I suppose, since many of them are Southerners. I did a bit of research and came up with a list of Presidential Barbecue joints. Add a review if you’ve been to them or comment below if you have any others that I’ve missed!
- Cooper’s Old-Time Pit Bar-B-Que in Llano, Texas is a favorite of George W. Bush. Cooper’s has catered events a Bush’s Crawford, Texas ranch and has a mail order operation. I wonder how many ribs they send off to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue?
- McClard’s Bar-B-Q was the barbecue place of choice when Bill Clinton was growing up in Hot Springs, Arkansas. It’s still a favorite in town and is often packed with diners.
- George Bush, Sr., has a favorite barbecue place in Houston, Otto’s Barbecue. If you go there, you can order the Bush Plate, made up of brisket, hot links, and ribs, the things he usually ordered.
- One of Jimmy Carter’s favorite BBQ joint is The Pink Pig in Cherry Log, GA. Former Georgia Governor and Senator Zell Miller also claims that The Pink Pig has the world’s best iced tea.
